Muppets Tonight Locations?

I made an image ([[1]]) of the Muppets Tonight basement thinking that there was a section for Muppets Tonight locations. Is there a place for this, or do we need to start a whole new category? -- Joe JParanoid 17:19, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

Excellent, go ahead and start one! The only reason we don't have one now is that nobody's bothered to make one yet. When you create the category, just put a category tag in "Muppets Tonight Locations" that places that into the larger "Locations" category. -- Danny (talk) 17:26, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

Location Queries

I'm having a lot of fun with this category, but a few things occurred to me. Danny placed Grouchland USA as a Sesame Street Location. I left it in for now, but unless it has been mention on the show, is it? It's not located on the street itself, though I suppose its connection through Oscar's trash can (which really needs a page) may justify it. Should Don't Drop Inn or the Dodo family's birdhouse also be Sesame Street locations, just because they're from Sesame Street movies? Which raises a related issue, whether or not to break up the Muppet Movies Locations. We did it with characters, and it makes sense, but with the movie characters, each film has had at least 6 and in some cases up to 25 or 35 characters introduced in it (and there's still quite a few named human bits and unnamed, unique Muppet characters, mostly choruses the singing bridal dummies/wedding cakes in The Muppets Take Manhattan or the Easter Island pig heads in Muppet Treasure Island, to be added). While some films, like Wizard of Oz, have several locations (only Munchkinland added, but at least six more could be added), most have at best two or three which would be worth talking about, and The Muppet Christmas Carol only has one, London (unless we want to wax rhapsodic about Scrooge's bedchamber; the Fozziwig Rubber Chicken Factory may have promise, though), and London is not unique, see Caper. Kermit's swamp figured in The Muppet Movie and of course Swamp Years, the Muppet Theater and Sesame Street itself have been recreated in films. So exactly how or where do we divide these?

Also, would it be worthwhile or just distracting to have a general Henson TV Locations category? Bear, Fraggle, Sesame, etc. all have a wealth of sets and locations, but as with the movies, many other shows had very few. Eliot Shag's apartment in Dog City is pretty interesting, but it's the only recurring set (with a great model exterior with bone fencing, though). I'd love to say things about the Dragon Time set from Puppetman, and I'm sure Tinkerdee could use exploration, but where do we put them? I'm taking a trip to NYC, and a stopover at the Museum of Radio and Television for Muppet research, but wanted to raise the question before then (as it could either be settled like that, or as in the actors or other discussions, it could take some mulling over; the Wiki works in mysterious ways). --Andrew, Aleal 03:27, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

Grouchland did actually appear on Sesame Street -- I have an episode from the mid 90s where Bob visited Grouchland and met "Nina the Nice", who was played by Carol Kane. (Since Sesame Street is all nice people and one grouch, Grouchland is all grouches and one nice person.) This predated Elmo in Grouchland, and may have been the inspiration for the movie.
But even if that weren't true, I'd still make the FTB and Grouchland locations part of the Sesame Locations category. The Muppet movies all take place in different universes, but the Sesame movies are grounded in the Sesame Street that we know. There's no relationship between the Muppet Theater and Treasure Island, but we know exactly how to get, how to get from Sesame Street to Grouchland. -- Danny Toughpigs 03:39, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
True. It's always made clear that Sesame Street is in New York, and how to get there. That's good enough for me. Can they go in both categories at least, though? It just feels a bit odd to put, say, Huxley's Castle in Sesame Street Locations only (and the more I look at it, as Grouchland itself has a few sets like the Ugly Parlor which may or may not prove fun fodder for their own pages, I probably should go ahead and divide the locations by individual films pretty soon). I do wonder about something like the kingdom in Cinderelmo. Also, how do we feel about general locations, like London as mentioned? I'm amused by the though creating a page on China and defining it solely or at least primarily by Big Bird's visit and other Muppet references. -- Andrew, Aleal 03:46, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I like the idea of a general Locations category. New York, London, China, Japan. Kermit's on the streets of NY in Sesame Street: 20 and Still Counting, and I think they're in Central Park for the 25th anniversary show. I can dig it. That would be funny. -- Danny Toughpigs 04:08, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
Plus, we can finally devote a page to Bombay, India, with its unique opportunities for film stardom, mentioned in both The Muppet Movie and the Lola Falana episode. (Of course, this was pre-Bollywood). --Andrew, Aleal 04:18, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
Sweet! Nice idea. -- Danny Toughpigs 04:22, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
