What makes something "international"? Is for non-English programs/merchandise? Is it a product/production aimed at a non-US audience? Is it only for secondary co-productions or non-US merchandise? A show like The Hoobs was produced in the UK, by the UK and for the UK (like Play With Me Sesame (UK) or Fraggle Rock (UK)) - it is only years afterwards that got syndicated in the US - but it (and all's its' stuff) is not listed as "international". On the other end you have Shalom Sesame, which was produced and marketed for a US audience (a program co-produced by the US and Israeli Sesame Streets, strongly aimed at Jewish Americans) - but it (and its related products, celebrities, characters...) are all labeled as "international". So what makes something international here? -- Brad D. (talk) 08:55, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

First, Shalom Sesame celebrities shouldn't be labeled as international, and I'm honestly not sure they are (no time to check), and it had no original characters (well, two humans, but they haven't been added yet). It was a spin-off of an international program, and really, I think it was just that nobody knew where else to put it. But with that exception, and feel free to suggest an alternate placement, the international categories all began with the Sesame Street co-productions, and even with expansions to other shows, that's how it's stayed. That is to say, adaptations, co-productions, dubs, translations, and any other tailoring of a show to suit a country's specific market, and any character or performer changes that accompany that. The Hoobs and any other British shows which took awhile to air in the states aren't the same thing, unless Sprout redubs the series ala Bob the Builder. If you want to create a new category for them, though (which would be about three shows by my count), feel free to propose it in current events. That's also why International Celebrities is carefully limited to those who have interacted with Muppets only in international appearances, Sesame shows, Muppets TV, etc, and not just any celebrities who aren't American or internationally famous. The Secret Life of Toys was shot in Germany and used German puppeteers, but for our purposes, we don't consider that an international show, whereas specifics on the German titled and redubbed version of the series would be, if that makes sense. -- Andrew Leal (talk) 15:02, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
As an addendum to that -- we consider any merchandise to be "International" that wasn't released in the US. So there's international Muppet video, etc. -- Danny (talk) 23:15, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
