By 1975, it was revealed that the common image of the brontosaurus was in fact based on confusion, deliberate mismatching of bones, and the fabrication of a skull in the early 20th century, and the accurate designation for the real animal which loosely inspired it is the apatosaurus. However, the brontosaurus remains more visible as a symbolic representation of a friendly dinosaur, and has served that role in Muppet productions.
A grayish blue-green brontosaurus appeared on The Muppet Show in episode 513 and episode 516. He later appeared in Neat Stuff To Know & To Do, named Vinny Brontosaurus and performed by Kevin Clash.
Later, a red bronto appeared on Sesame Street, and would eventually gain an identity as Herb.
