"Blue Skies" was written by Irving Berlin as a last minute addition to the Rodgers and Hart musical Betsy. Although the show only ran for 39 performances, the audience demanded 28 encores of the song on opening night. The following year, "Blue Skies" became the first song to be heard in a sound motion picture when Al Jolson performed it in The Jazz Singer.
"Blue Skies" was performed on episode 322 of The Muppet Show by the Prairie Dogs. This performance is featured on the Muppet Show Music Album.
