Big Mean Carl
From Muppet Wiki
Big Mean Carl is a shaggy monster who appeared on Muppets Tonight, continuing the proud tradition of Muppet characters with voracious appetites. He altered his stage name slightly, depending on what kind of act he was performing on the show.
His acts included:
- Carl the Big Mean Bagpipe-Eater
- Carl the Big Mean Porcupine-Eater
- Carl the Big Mean Bunny
- Carl the Big Mean Ventriloquist
- Carl the Big Mean Psychic
- Carl the Big Mean Bubble Guy
Most of these bits ended with Carl eating another character, and triumphantly saying "Thank you!".
In the expanded UK airings of Muppets Tonight, Carl also appeared on the game show Swift Wits, in which he always ate the losing contestants. Carl's mother, Carla the Big Mean Mom, is featured in Episode 212.
The Big Mean Carl puppet was first seen in the 1992 Muppet Meeting Film "Think Bigger," where he was called Chairman Budget and performed by Dave Goelz.
The puppet was later used as The Glox in The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss.
