Big Jeffy is a member of Little Jerry and the Monotones on Sesame Street. Big Jeffy was the bass singer. Though part of the group, him and the other Monotones appeared absent in a 1970 sketch demonstrating "Forward" and "Backward" with Little Jerry, other Hippie Muppets, the proto Grover and a Hot Pink Anything Muppet leading the lecture. (First: Episode 0069)
He also appeared as a member of Little Chrissy and the Alphabeats in the songs "I Go to School", "Kindergarten", and "Gonna Rock You to Sleep", in which he replaced the Lavender Alphabeat in those songs.
Big Jeffy was named after Jeff Moss, who performed the character's voice. Jerry Nelson performed him in a sketch where the Monotones assist Grover in demonstrating the word "walk", and Kevin Clash filled in for him in a 2000 episode after Moss' death, during Little Jerry and the Monotones' comeback appeareance.
During his gigs with Little Chrissy, his hippie garb was replaced with a red Alphabeat shirt. Later in 2000, he got a new revised look with a white shirt, a fringed leather vest, and medallion.
