The first new muppet album released since Disney purchased the rights to the muppets was released in May 2004. It was released as a soundtrack to The Muppets Wizard of Oz. Originally, Disney planned on only including songs from the movie in addition to The Rainbow Connection and a new hip hop version of Bein' Green, called It Ain't Easy Bein' Green, to be performed by Kermit the Frog and Ashanti. However, it was decided not to include a new cover, and instead promote it as both a soundtrack and a release of some of the muppets best-known songs.

Although only 1 out of the 9 songs that weren't from The Muppets Wizard of Oz, Halfway Down The Stairs, had not been included in The Muppet Show: Music, Mayhem, and More from two years earlier, Bein' Green had it's opening music included, and The Muppet Show Theme was presented in it's full, uncut version as heard in The Muppet Show (LP), probably the first time since the release of that album that the full album version was included on an album.
