Bernie is a talent agent for many characters in Muppet TV shows and movies, particularly Miss Piggy. Bernie is never seen; characters communicate with him in one-way phone conversations.
Dom DeLuise played a character named Bernie the Agent in The Muppet Movie. It's unclear whether there's any relationship between the two characters -- or, for that matter, whether any of the Bernies are the same Bernie. Maybe every agent is named Bernie.
The name comes from Bernie Brillstein, who was Jim Henson's manager and close friend for most of his career.

- His name is also used in the Chris Langham episode of The Muppet Show as a fictitious guest who refused to come on the show, Benny Brillstein the Yiddish Yodeler.
- Kermit the Frog tells Bernie he doesn't want to play Las Vegas in a Kermit at Home sketch on Sesame Street.
- Peter Falk's character in The Great Muppet Caper cites Bernie as Kermit's supposed his brother-in-law with whom he used to own a laundromat business.
