Baron Münchhausen (1720-1797) was a German baron, best remembered for his tall tales about his adventures. His stories were collected in various collections before and after his death, with other legends and fables attached to his name. Among his claims were riding on cannonballs and taveling to the Moon. His name was also used for Münchausen Syndrome, a factitious disorder in which a person feigns illness for attention.
