Barkley is the pet dog of the Hubbard family in the Mother Goose Stories episode "Mother Hubbard". Barkley aids Sherlock Hubbard in his detective work. Like his master, he wears a deerstalker. Although he likes chewing on bones, he enjoys burying them in the garden even more.

Although Sherlock took credit for solving the case, Barkley solved "the case of the missing diamond" and found the missing jewel. To reward the sleuthing canine, Old Mother Hubbard goes to the cupboard, to fetch her poor dog a bone. When she discoveres a bare cupboard, Sherlock and Heather each try to discover what happened to Barkley's bone.
