Angsthaas (Scarehare) is a hare who debuted in the 2008 season of Sesamstraat, the Dutch co-production of Sesame Street. He is a furry reporter who follows the adventures of the daredevil chicken Stuntkip.
Angsthaas was created in order to address the subject of childhood fears. He doesn't dare to do the things that Stuntkip does, like going to the dentist, barber, or retrieving a ball that lands in the garden of a neighbour.
Angsthaas and Stuntkip were created on April 17th, 2007 during a teambuilding day on the canals in Amsterdam. The crew examined photos to select new Muppet characters to add to Sesamstraat. Angsthaas (whose name is a Dutch synonym for a coward, akin to "scaredycat") was created as a counterpart to the fearless Stuntkip.
Both puppets are borrowed from the American Muppet Workshop. The puppet of Angsthaas is essentially a rebuild of Benny Rabbit, with different facial features. Right hand assistance for the character is supplied by Bert Plagman or Judith Broersen.
