The American Music Award is an award that was created in 1973 by Dick Clark as a more public opinion music award, verses the Grammy Awards, as the voting is a result of a poll of music buyers verses votes by members of the entertainment industry. The first ceremony was hosted by Michael Jackson and Donny Osmond in 1974, and the awards themselves have gone on to be one of the major music awards of the year.

On July 29, 1984, Dick Clark presented Kermit the Frog with the first Amphibian American Music Achievement Award (the AMMAA) in honor of his contributions to popular music.
