Alaska is part of the United States of America, and was the 49th state admitted to the union.

• In 2006, Governor Frank Murkowski of Alaska taped a "Healthy Habits for Life" PSA with Elmo and Rosita, for use on PBS. In the ad, the governor and the Muppets try hummus, carrots, burritos, and mangos, and at the end, Murkowski shows the monsters a dish of Alaskan wild salmon.

• Sesame Street filmed a series of short films in Alaska during 1986. One featured a child getting ready for school. He did so in a song called "Ookyook," which is Inuit for "winter." The film has been recycled recently for a Global Grover segment.

• Joe Raposo wrote a song for Sesame Street called "I Like Alaska"; the song aired in episode 2356 with a montage of kids saying what their hobbies are, and what they like about their community.
